Hello to all. This particular Lockheed 10E Electra, c/n 1042 (designated construction number), was eventually sold by PBA to a skydiving operation in Zephyrhills FL. It was based there until October 1976, when it was then purchased by Bobby Frierson and Gene Paul Thacker, to be re-based at their skydiving operations in Barnwell, SC and Raeford, NC.
A few years later, it was sold to Dolphin Overton’s Wings & Wheels Museum and relocated to Orlando FL for future static display.
During the mid-1980’s, Flight Instructor Grace McGuire rescued c/n 1042 from pending salvage, with the incredibly challenging plans to both totally restore the aircraft, and to attempt to complete Amelia Earhart’s flight around the world. Health issues prevented the plans for flight, but Grace was able to successfully complete the restoration.
In 2016, Grace sold c/n 1042 to Ladd Seaberg’s Atchison Amelia Earhart Foundation based in Atchison KS; birthplace and hometown of Amelia Earhart. His plans were to design and build a hangar museum to be located at the Amelia Earhart Memorial Airport, in order to properly display and feature this vintage aviation masterpiece.
Unfortunately, Ladd Seaberg passed away before the project was complete; but as of today (June 14, 2023), this particular Lockheed 10E Electra, c/n 1042 (nicknamed “Muriel”), proudly sits in the Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum; available for public viewing. To the best of my knowledge and at this time, this information is as accurate as it can be.
